2023 SUBMISSIONS PROCESSING TIMELINE

The Texas Gold Film and Sport Festival's 2023 Call for Film Entries has officially concluded. We extend our sincere gratitude to filmmakers from across the globe who entrusted us with their creative works for consideration in this year's festival.

For films submitted by the final deadline of June 26th, 2023, our dedicated Programming Department will meticulously review each submission by the end of September. We will keep you informed through two distinct stages of email communication:

Early-June Update

 Submission Acknowledgement - Filmmakers who have submitted their works will receive an email confirming the successful entry of their films into our selection process. This email will serve as acknowledgment that your submission is being actively processed.

End of August Announcement

Programming Decision - In early August, filmmakers will receive a follow-up email, delivering the exciting news of whether their films have been chosen for screening at our November 2023 festival.

Breaking The Stigma: ADHD in African Americans

Empowering African Americans" is a comprehensive documentary that aims to raise awareness and provide valuable insights into Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) specifically within the African American community. Through informative storytelling and expert interviews, this feature-length film sheds light on the impact of ADHD on individuals' lives, offering educational content that seeks to empower and support those affected.  This documentary offers a compelling exploration of ADHD 

Houston United

🎥 "Houston United" is a 35-minute documentary short film directed by Juan Mejia Botero. It focuses on the soccer team at Margaret Long Wisdom High School in Houston, Texas. The team consists of 24 players from 12 different countries who have faced challenges such as war, gang violence, and poverty in their home countries. They compete for the state title while dealing with the anxiety of being undocumented immigrants in America. The film, completed on May 26, 2023, premiered at the Tribeca Film

Wounded Psyche


"Wounded Psyche" is a 1-hour, 23-minute, and 21-second documentary/experimental/feature film directed, written, and produced by Meysam Jafarinejadsedehi. Completed on November 27, 2022, in Iran, Islamic Republic of, the film explores the story of Maysam, who sees himself as a product of the Iran-Iraq war and contemplates ending his life. It delves into the question of whether there is anything that can bring him back to life.

SOLD! An American Stockyards Story

'SOLD!' is a documentary directed by Drew Ames that explores the impact of the St. Joseph Missouri Stockyards, packing, and grocery industries on the local community and agriculture across the nation. The film features in-depth interviews with cowboys, historians, ranchers, auctioneers, and industry experts. I Drew Ames, a 5th generation Cattle Farmer from Northwest Missouri, directed the film.

What If They Knew

Deacon Chaney" is a short film that explores the intriguing question of whether our forefathers would have rewritten the country if they knew what we know today. It combines elements of science fiction, drama, history, American culture, and suspense to tell its story.

Raavana Kottam [ Raavana's Kingdom]

thought-provoking drama that exposes the consequences of corrupt politics dividing a village in India along caste lines. Directed by Vikram Sugumaran, this powerful film sheds light on the violence and anarchy that arise from this division. Through stunning visuals and a gripping narrative, it explores the impact of caste-based politics on individuals and communities, confronting prevailing social divisions in contemporary India.

Bank Man Fraud

A short film directed by Jesse Rosenberg. It tells the story of Brian, a man disliked by society for stealing millions from working-class Americans, who is now under house arrest and forced to confront the disdain of his family.

Social Depression

A depressed young man meets a blind man in the forest who helps him find direction in life. The film has a runtime of 17 minutes and 55 seconds and was completed on May 19, 2023. It is the first film by director Patrick Torres and aims to shed light on depression among young men in the modern world.

100 Of Us

100 Girls" is a compelling documentary that chronicles the remarkable journey of young girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity in Nigeria. The film focuses on their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, led by the NEEM Foundation. With a powerful narrative, it showcases the resilience and strength of these girls as they rebuild their lives after such traumatic experiences.

Punk Rock Vegan

Punk Rock Vegan Movie" is a captivating documentary directed by musician Moby that explores the intersection of punk rock and the animal rights movement. With a focus on historical ties and shared ethics, the film highlights the unyielding commitment of both movements. Through interviews and compelling footage, it sheds light on the powerful connection between punk rock and advocating for animal rights.

For child never born

"For a Child Who Was Never Born" is a drama film set in Iran, directed, written, and produced by Afsaneh Aghanezhad. The story follows a young girl coping with the loss of her father and her mother's struggles during pregnancy in a challenging society. The film delves into themes of human rights and psychological complexities. Starring Aylin Bagheri, Afsaneh Aghanezhad, and Razieh Karimi.

The Story of Chappie O'shea and the Making of Acres Homes

"Chappie O'Shea: From Convict to Community Pillar" is a documentary film that tells the captivating story of Chappie O'Shea, a convicted murderer who escapes prison and finds redemption in the community of Acres Homes. This once-thriving black community in the South becomes the backdrop for Chappie's remarkable transformation and his journey to becoming a respected member of society. The film explores themes of personal growth, resilience, and the power of community.

Giti jan

Is a poignant 10-minute short film directed by Shayan Shahverdi and produced by Masoud Shahverdi. This compelling film delves into the emotional journey of a young girl as she battles with her personal challenges. Through its concise runtime, the film offers a powerful exploration of resilience and the human spirit in the face of adversity.

FORGOTTEN SONG

"The Friendship Settlement" a heartfelt film directed by Monika Grzybowska, which takes viewers on a journey through love, war, and personal identity. Set in the 1950s, a young boy visits the Friendship Settlement in Poland to find accommodation for his Ukrainian grandparents. Along the way, he meets a girl in the choir who becomes his guide, leading them to discover the power of music as both a backdrop and a central character. The film is a poignant exploration of human connections. Monika 

Ivy Grace

This poignant documentary follows Jill and Lacey, former Ms. South Carolina and close friends, as they navigate the heartbreaking decision to terminate their pregnancies due to fetal anomalies. Directed by Allie Delury with an all-women crew, the film sheds light on their challenges in a 'Post-Roe' world. The film's submission to the Texas Gold Film Festival highlights its focus on women's rights. It offers a powerful exploration of the experiences of mothers making impossible choices.

Beyond The After


"Beyond the After," a youth adventure sequel to "After," was produced through a filmmakers bootcamp led by Cathryn Sullivan. Six students landed substantial roles in TV and film projects like Apple TV's "FOUNDATION" and Disney's "SECRETS OF SULPHER SPRINGS." Ella Schupp won Best Young Filmmaker for her short film, and Audrey Lingle became a 1st assistant camera. The bootcamp aimed for a 50/50 gender ratio and provided opportunities for aspiring filmmakers. The film explores a new world called "

Kindling

"Kindling" is a heartwarming coming-of-age drama that follows a group of young men returning to their hometown to celebrate their friend's final days. Directed by Connor O'Hara. It explores themes of grief, friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit. Filmed and set in the UK and features a talented cast including George Somner, Conrad Khan, and Mia McKenna-Bruce. "Kindling" offers a hopeful and optimistic perspective on life and serves as a tribute to the filmmaker's lost friends.

THE STORY OF A GIRL WHO STOOD UP FOR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN NIGERIA

Raw and Authentic: Emotional Stories from Nigerians" is a documentary film directed by Ayemere Okoduwa. It features Rahmah Zakareeyah, Akinropo Akinola, Olawunmi Akindipo, and other key cast members. The film delves into the experiences and emotions of Nigerians, offering a genuine portrayal of their lives. With a runtime of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 16 seconds, this documentary sheds light on the diverse stories and perspectives from Nigeria, showcasing the country's rich cultural tapestry.

BECKMA

"BECKMA" is a gripping film directed by award-winning filmmaker Best Okoduwa, who serves as the Chief Creative Officer at Savvy Minaz Nigeria. The film explores the journey of Beckma, a survivor of a traumatic childhood, as she seeks justice by taking revenge on her abusers. With a focus on promoting social impact and sustainable development in Africa, Best Okoduwa brings his expertise and passion for storytelling to create an impactful and thought-provoking film. "BECKMA" 

FROM HERE TO THERE!

"From Here To There!" is a Sci-Fi Romantic Comedy featuring Casper, who invents a teleportation device to win his crush Ellen's heart. Their journey takes an unexpected twist in Edinburgh, teaching Casper valuable lessons about love and self-worth. 

Good Session

Jeff" is a short film directed by Larry Rosen, featuring Mike Vezza as Jeff and Meg Wells as Dr. Cory Ford. In their first therapy session, Jeff discovers that the doctor may have more issues than he does. 

DOCPOL-1 NATION 4 CITIES

"Docpol- 1 Nation 4 cities" is a 42' documentary produced by Film Pollution 1981 in August 2019. It explores the beauty and historical traditions of four Polish cities: Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk, and Wroclaw. The documentary delves into the impact of events like the Nazi invasion and the Solidarity labor struggles, highlighting fascinating locations and museums that showcase the cities' rich history.

A Touch of Kindness

A Touch of Kindness" is an 11-minute documentary that explores mental health in America, contributing to the ongoing conversation. Directed, written, and produced by Justin Rowe Tolliver, an emerging filmmaker known for his comedy horror short film "A Rolling Shadow."  The documentary, produced and filmed in the United States reflecting Tolliver's dedication to addressing important societal issues.

This is not a Drill

This is not a Drill" is a thought-provoking film that delves into the lives of college students affected by school shootings, highlighting the need for ongoing dialogue on social justice issues and promoting unity in society. Directed by Mariot Valcin Jr., who also wrote the screenplay and plays a key role in the film, it captures the aftermath of such tragedies. The film brings attention to the impact of school shootings and the experiences of survivors.
